Get to know the Aurum Team
Aurum is a family business - Richard Bauer and Gloria Crews opened the studio in 1986. Surviving the many challenges of opening a new business - from an economic standpoint as well as the personal challenges of working together and living together as a couple, they credit their wonderful patrons for giving them the opportunity to create and share in their family celebrations and their love of beautiful jewelry for the success of the business. Their son, Ian, is now an integral part of the business. He has been at the studio for 10 years working diligently and getting hands-on experience with metalsmithing and jewelry design under the supervision of his father. Their daughter-in-law, Jessica, is their social media and website guru. She has worked part time at Aurum for 15 years.
Richard has a Master degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Indiana University and has a Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America. Gloria has a Bachelor degree in Art Education with an emphasis in Jewelry Design. Richard and Gloria are both from Indiana and have lived in this area for 32 years and in Bal Harbour of Shalimar for 25 years. Ian is working on his graduate gemologist degree at the Gemological Institute of America. Jessica has a Bachelor degree in Business with an emphasis in Computer Science from Northwest Florida State College. Ian and Jessica have been married for 7 years and plan to utilize their skill sets to continue the business after Gloria and Richard retire. Until then, they will continue to learn everything they can about the business.
When not in the studio, the family enjoys all that living on the water has to offer. Boating, skiing, tubing and enjoying the local scenery are at the top of their list of hobbies they enjoy. They also enjoy taking trips together. Their favorite spots are in the Caribbean, where they enjoy snorkeling and exploring waters that aren't so local!
